The thread
- Sewer systems that connect to my house to carry away used water
- The lift station at the end of my street that raises the waste to a new level so gravity can do its work
- The engineers monitoring the system to ensure the waste doesn’t back up into my home
About Five Thank Yous
Five Thank Yous is a quiet, curated collection of anonymous gratitude threads.
It is a small website where people submit short reflections that begin with one specific good thing and trace it back through the people, labor, nature, memory, place, timing, care, chance, grace, and conditions that made it possible.
The project is inspired by Toyota’s Five Whys technique. Five Whys asks repeated “why?” questions to follow a problem back toward a root cause. Five Thank Yous turns that structure toward gratitude. Instead of asking why something went wrong, it asks who or what made this good thing possible? The answer becomes the next thank-you. Then that thank-you becomes the subject of the next question.
Gratitude deepens when we notice that the good in our lives does not come from ourselves alone.
