A warm hand on my shoulder

The thread

  1. The warm hand of a close friend resting on my shoulder.
  2. My skin...threaded with tiny sensors that notice warmth and a slow, gentle press.
  3. The nerve fibers that carry that quiet message up my arm and spine to my brain.
  4. The brain that gathers those signals and, with its soothing chemistry, turns them into the feeling of being cared for.
  5. The memories stirred feeling in my brain: of friends and family, of laughter and love.

About Five Thank Yous

Five Thank Yous is a quiet, curated collection of anonymous gratitude threads.

It is a small website where people submit short reflections that begin with one specific good thing and trace it back through the people, labor, nature, memory, place, timing, care, chance, grace, and conditions that made it possible.

The project is inspired by Toyota’s Five Whys technique. Five Whys asks repeated “why?” questions to follow a problem back toward a root cause. Five Thank Yous turns that structure toward gratitude. Instead of asking why something went wrong, it asks who or what made this good thing possible? The answer becomes the next thank-you. Then that thank-you becomes the subject of the next question.

Gratitude deepens when we notice that the good in our lives does not come from ourselves alone.
